on october 15, 2016, pakistan’s chashma unit 3 (c3) was connected to the country’s power grid at a ceremony attended by the pakistan atomic energy commission, shanghai nuclear engineering research & design institute and china national nuclear corporation (cnnc).
construction began on the chinese-designed pressurized water reactor in 2011, and the unit is expected to enter commercial operation before the end of this year. unit 4, which began construction 9 months after c3, is currently undergoing commissioning and is expected to enter commercial operation in 2017.
