from september 9 to 13, 2019, delegation from shanghai nuclear engineering research & design institute co., ltd. (snerdi) is invited to attend iaea workshop on advanced probabilistic safety assessment (psa) approaches and applications in netherlands.

the workshop is intended to provide a forum to discuss advanced psa approaches and applications. during the workshop, representative from snerdi gives the presentation on psa in regulatory framework and psa related software development. representative from snerdi is also elected a panelist among audience of the discussion on multi-unit considerations, software reliability, passive systems reliability, dynamic approaches and other advanced psa applications. achievement on the requirements and recommendations included in iaea safety standards in the area of psa as well as with the ongoing iaea activities related to advanced psa approaches and applications is estimated to be provided before the end of 2019.

psa allows analysts to determine all significant contributing factors to the radiation risks arising from a nuclear power plant. psa results provide a basis for the safety related decision-making process, and allow decision makers to evaluate the priority, effectiveness and accuracy of safety related decisions. psa approaches have continuously evolved and significantly progressed during the last decades. the progress of psa approaches and applications is conditioned by several factors such as the further development of the state of knowledge, reduced conservatism, and lessons learned from the fukushima daiichi nuclear accident.
